Education has been an integral component of HOPE’s development initiatives. HOPE has established a wide network of formal and informal schools in Karachi, interior Sindh, and Muzaffarabad. Currently, HOPE’s education program encompasses two formal schools and 200 informal primary and secondary schools, which aim to provide high quality, cost effective education to the most vulnerable children in rural and urban settings.
In order to encourage enrollment in its schools, HOPE has maintained its tuition at nominal charges and provides text books for free. In an effort to foster trust with the community and provide employment opportunities, teachers are locally recruited from the community and trained by HOPE staff for all schools.Additionally, HOPE has nearly 9,000 children studying in 200 Home Schools all across the country. These schools are informally held within the home of the female teacher, working in tandem with cultural restraints. The concept is to provide education for children in communities where parents do not allow their children to travel far to attend school.
